It is very important you tell your logo designer to consider these five (5) things listed below when you want him/her to create a new logo for your brand.
1. Make the logo simple:
Before you award a logo design project to a designer, it is advisable you make it known that you would love to get a logo that appear simple but not too simple. A simple logo can take the minimalist approach with deep interpretation.
If your brand logo is not simple enough, it might be difficult for your audience to register it in their mind. When a logo is too grumpy, the brand will not appear serious and it will easily loose it identity in term of impression and/or memorability.
2. Ignore trend and follow artistic intuition:
Some business owners are easily carried away with the latest trend in a design, hence they tend to follow trends which might not favour their business on the long run.
A client should allow the designer utilize his/her creative prowess with little or no interference. These will allow the logo designer come up with a logo that will reflect the company’s value.
3. Draw inspiration:
In order to come up with a logo design that speaks about the industry of a business, it is permissible to draw inspiration from similar brand in the industry. This does not mean that the logo of a competition should be replicated.
4. Let it work across different platforms:
This is an aspect that most client often ignore when they order for a logo design. It is very significant that a logo should be able to work on different platform so as to keep the features of the logo. Hence, a logo should be created in such a way that it will be usable on prints (business card, brochure, newsletter, calendar, notepad, letterhead, flyer….) and web (website, social media, app).
Also, the logo should be designed in black and white first before adding the preferred color of the company, it should be in a vector file format, the shape of the logo should be proportional, that is, each sides should be related in size.
5. The logo should be able to stand the test of time:
Lastly, the designers should create a logo that will last for a longer period of time even if there is need for an update. A good example is the logo of the two popular soda company in the world, namely, coca cola and Pepsi.
According to our recent observation, coca cola still retain the design it has been using from day one while pepsi has changed it design for more than three times. Although, the latter is popular with a fair market share, but it will still bear the cost of updating the logo.
